Karen Topping

Karen has immersed herself in the equine industry for the last 18 years, doing everything from hunter/jumper, western pleasure, barn management, starting colts, and cutting (etc). Originating in Southampton, New York, she was first introduced to horses by managing the office at Sag Pond Stables, a 100-horse H/J show barn. Spending more time in the barn than in the office, she decided to make working with horses a full time career. This journey has taken her from New York all across the country, landing her here in California since 1999. Pulling together all of her experiences, Karen started her own business in 2002 sharing her knowledge with people and horses of all ages, abilities, and disciplines.

Karen provides positive role-modeling with a can-do attitude. Through her generosity of spirit, uniting demeanor, and competency with horses and people, she created a growing family at Sonrisa Stables. Students of all ages learn english, western, horse care, stable management, ground work, colt-starting, remedial training, mentoring skills, respect and teamwork.

Karen regularly takes her students to participate in cutting, sorting, trail riding, horse camping, on-site in-house competitions (cowboy competitions, drill teams, play days) as well as off-site shows, and of course fun events like Halloween costume contests and Birthday parties.
